Water Quality Monitoring
PNPC took into account the importance of maintaining downstream water quality when designing and constructing its project infrastructure. All dams are incorporated with facilities to allow the discharge of an adequately aerated Environmental Flow to maintain the downstream aquatic ecosystem. Prior to
inundating the reservoir, a Biomass Clearing Plan was developed and implemented to remove residual biomass to help improve the overall water quality of the reservoirs.
The PNPC, in conjunction with the MONRE, developed and are implementing a comprehensive water quality monitoring program for the reservoirs and downstream rivers.
Field measurements and water quality samples for laboratory analysis are conducted on a monthly basis at fourteen (14) sampling sites across the Project. In addition to laboratory analysis, depth profiles are conducted at key sampling sites in the reservoirs to understand the dynamics of temperature and dissolved oxygen in the reservoir water columns.
